BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Data released by the industry data company Wards Intelligence on June 3 showed that sales of light vehicles in the US experienced their biggest drop in five years in May.
The data indicated that US sales of light vehicles in May were 15.65 million units, down by approximately 1.6 million units from the revised figure of 17.25 million units in April, marking the largest decline since April 2020. Sales of light vehicles in March were 17.83 million units. The US government's measure to impose a 25% tariff on imported cars came into effect on April 3.
Analysts believe that US consumers' rush to purchase vehicles in March and April before the price increases took effect is one of the reasons behind the dismal sales performance in May.
